The Challenge: From The Student's Perspective
Rawan was a typical 6th form student in a local state school. She worked hard at her studies - paid attention in class, completed her homework sets and revised for her topic tests and exams. The problem was that she wasn't seeing the results of her hard work and effort. Her test grades hovered around a "C" - sometimes a little higher and sometimes a little lower.
Rawan felt as if she didn't really understand A-level Chemistry. Her teacher explained the concepts in the best way that they could but Rawan felt as if there was a disconnect between what the teacher said in class and what was on the tests. It was as if she partially understood the questions on the homework set, but when she came to take the topic tests the concepts seemed all foreign to her. Like the questions were worded in a different way, so she didn't really understand what the question was asking her let alone be able to answer the question!
And her confidence in her ability to understand and pass A-level Chemistry began to sink and she became more and more frustrated with her grade.
So, when it came to the topic tests Rawan started to memorise mark schemes in the hope that this would improve her grade. Her logic being that if you memorised enough mark schemes then you were bound to see a similar question on the topic test.
And this is the logic that Rawan used when studying for her UCAS prediction exam. Revise the content in each module, but focus mainly on memorising mark schemes.
Which unfortunately led her to earning a predicted grade of a "C" on her UCAS prediction exam.
Challenge Highlights
The Solution: How I Approached The Challenge And Why
I approached the challenge of helping Rawan by helping her focus on her exam preparation and building her self confidence.

Solution Core Concepts
An in-depth review of all of the concepts in the A-level Chemistry specification.
I reviewed all of the core concepts in the course with Rawan showing her how to create notes and link the questions in the homework set to each of the subtopics in the specification. I also taught Rawan how to use her notes and PPQ to effectively study for her topic tests.

Solution Exam Preparation
A systematic approach to revision that adapts based on the results of tests and exams.
I taught Rawan how to create a study timetable and a revision plan that worked with her schedule and how she liked to revise material. I showed Rawan how to adjust her revision techniques and strategies so her grade was always improving with every test and exam.

Solution Exam Psychology
A system to quickly build and maintain a high degree of confidence in your test taking abilities.
I showed Rawan how to quickly overcome the doubt that she had about her ability to pass A-level Chemistry so that she could focus on her revision. And I also showed her how to overcome her exam phobia so that she could perform at her best on her tests and exams.
He helped my daughter to build up her confidence. He is supportive and very good in giving exam tips. I recommend him for everyone.
